The Failure of the National Unity Government and the Gaza Takeover: December 2005 to July 2007 is a detailed chronology, documenting events leading up to the signing, on February 8, 2007, of the Mecca Agreement ending factional fighting between Hamas and Fatah, leading to the formation of a Palestinian national unity government led by Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, on March 17, 2007. The chronology then documents daily events through the spring and early summer of 2007 leading to the Hamas takeover of Gaza and the creation of a Palestinian emergency government in the West Bank.
